Serving the Lord comes in many ways than one. While in Malaysia for the 1st International Language Conference, I met two promising young men who are currently serving a mission under the Singapore Mission, in Taman Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
After I arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I called for the concierge at the Sheraton Hotel in Subang Jaya to ask for any contact numbers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints branch in Malaysia and she gave me only one number which I dialed and in God's destined plan, connected me to Elders Duran and Foster.
We decided to meet on March 4, 2008 in Taman Jaya. I took the LRT train from KL Sentral to Taman Jaya and we talked as well as shared stories of the Saints in Malaysia.
They accompanied me to their meetinghouse in Taman Jaya which houses three branches at one time. The meetinghouse is impressive with its space and the sacrament area is equally impressive.
Missionaries in Malaysia, they told me does not wear name plate to protect them from threats against them and the way they serve our Heavenly Father, however, missionaries in Singapore wears them. Elder Foster is from Utah while Elder Duran is from Alabama. They are the Chinese-speaking missionaries trained in the MTC in Provo, Utah.
Our meeting has been a great source of inspiration and commitment towards the Church and the faith we keep everyday.
