Dr. Andrew Burge of the 7th Hawaii International Conference on Education announced on September 18, 2008 the acceptance of the research paper of Mr. Wendell Glenn P. Cagape, PhD student of the La Salle University entitled, “Pursuing a Policy to educate children at risk: A Study on factors affecting cohort survival rate in Zamboanga del Sur” on January 4-7, 2009 in Hawaii, USA. His paper was accepted after a rigorous review of established scholars, academics, experts in education from the US.
His paper entitled, “Indigenizing the English Language, Localizing usage for Better Understanding” which was accepted for presentation in the 14th Conference of t International Association of World Englishes from December 1-5, 2008 and hosted by the City University of Hong Kong.
Mr. Cagape is a PhD Candidate from La Salle University and presently, the College/Board Secretary of the JH Cerilles State College. He is, at present, writing his dissertation entitled, “Human Safety in the Philippine Basic Education, A Model for Integrating Ergonomics into the Classroom”. He has presented two of his doctoral researches abroad namely, “Islamicisation of the Philippine Public Basic Education Sector: Mainstreaming Madrasah Education” which he presented in the 1st International Language Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in March this year and “Ethics in Test: Test Preparation and Administration in Philippine Education, A study in Zamboanga del Sur” which he presented in the 13th International Conference on Education in Brunei Darussalam in May this year.
Prior to his stint in the academe, he has served as the Provincial Information Officer of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur and as Communications Focal Officer for the UNICEF-funded Sixth Country Program for Children. He was also the Legislative Staff of the Office of Senator Edgardo J. Angara and has taught at the Department of Consular and Diplomatic Affairs of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
He obtained his baccalaureate degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology and his MA in Foreign Service from the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Intramuros, Manila. He has earned his units in the PhD in Development Management from the Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City.
The 7th Hawaii International Conference on Education is jointly organized by the University of Louisville, Pepperdine University, California State University and the Hong Kong Teacher’s Association. According to Dr. Burge, the attendance of Mr. Cagape as a presenter will “contribute to the success of the conference”.
