Beginning of an end or an end in itself?

At this point, I am not lamenting on the issue of corruption in the country but on how the testimonies of Lozada are making headlines without the benefit of solid evidence. It would have been better if there should be solid evidence pointing to direct culpability but looking at it, it's very hard to obtain solid evidence against corruption and irregularities in government.

For me personally, I am slowly being convinced by the testimonies of Lozada especially that many are showing up to support him. I just hope that things will end swiftly to benefit the greater good and the greater Filipino nation. We have achieved resounding economic progress and this has to be sustained to benefit the greater masses who are mired in poverty, but can we continue to sustain this with this kind of political instability and insecurities?

If PGMA has to go to preserve our national pride and economic growth, then so be it, but through what means that is not disastrous to both our political and economic climate? Will another massive street action against the government result to more transparent, sensitive and corrupt-free government in the leadership of De Castro? Will this country be renewed by changing the people sitting in Malacanang when we have retained most of those who are already mired in corruption and resides in the provinces, cities and municipalities? These very people are also the ones influencing the one occupying the palace.

I am not saying that the entire country is downright corrupt, but it has already been part of our culture. Corruption has been part of the way Filipinos transact official business in the government and even in the private sector. We have not been too strong to fight it back. This is one of the reasons why idealistic men and women left this nation and venture to countries where they can maximally contribute to developments and progress, without necessarily be at the center or forefront of corruption and irregular transactions in government.

Corruption has been the cancer that even Jose Rizal wanted to get rid and until now, we are trying to fight back too. Well, I think it take courage and determination to do another Lozada but this Lozada can not and never will be able to bring down this government with just testimonies and no evidences to back his claims. This will just be another footnote in the study of the history of corruption in the country, unless he will be able to justify with solid evidence all his claims. His claims against corruption have to be substantiated with evidence so that this government can be made answerable.

Ousting PGMA will never solve the problem of irregularities and corruption in this country, instead, it will open another door for more corrupt leader who will be more extra cautious and careful not to be caught next time and the cycle of corruption continues. We have to address this cancer by resolving once and for all, that even us, ordinary employees will not allow ourselves to corrupt and be corrupted by either people who holds the power that be in our offices or our transactions in the office. It can never be addressed unless we, ourselves are convinced that corruption ruins relationships, fellowships, associations and ultimately, government. Corruption can be seen as the beginning to an end or the end in itself, depending on who corrupts and who whistle-blow. With the case of Lozada, he may be the only chance to reveal the truth but he is not the right person to tell the truth as he is not privy to it. It is Neri in the first place. Neri is the best person to tell the truth and unmask the irregularities surrounding the NBN-ZTE aborted deal. It is he who will be convincing enough to tell us the truth and not Lozada. Listening to Lozada and charging this government of corruption is outright stupid and irresponsible. Again, unless he can show proof of what he claims to be the irregularities, nobody will even support the mass action called by civil society, the church and academe.

I am just hoping that this will end just fine for the greater Filipino nation because in the end of the day, it is us, ordinary Filipinos who will be affected by it. Well, if this continues in the next 10 years, it will not be too long that talented men and women, those with skills and brilliance will follow other Filipino’s lead and work abroad. I, myself is comfortable working in other countries and government when there is stability and transparency compared to the political instability and unpredictability that we had.
